The Police patrol boat ‘Auki ‘will continue to provide assistance to neighboring Vanuatu for an extra period of time upon request from the Vanuatu government.
This was revealed by the Police commissioner, Frank Prendergast while speaking at the police media conference yesterday.
Patrol Boat Auki was deployed to Port Vila, Vanuatu on a humanitarian mission after the devastating tropical cyclone Pam mid last month.
The boat was expected to leave Vanuatu this week but a request by the Vanuatu government for the boat to remain there for one more month has been granted.
“The police patrol boat ‘Auki’ that was expected to return from Vanuatu this week has been requested by the Vanuatu government to stay for an extra month.
“The Solomon Islands government is a great impact of that request so the deployment of patrol boat ‘Auki’ has been extended,” the police boss said.
Mr Prendergast said that the request comes about after the patrol boat did a very fine work in moving assets and people around Vanuatu during its disaster relief trip.
