The Solomon Islands Red Cross Society has successfully completed a community-based First Aid (CBFA) training for 20 members of three Savo Island communities this week.
The three communities were, Kuila, Reko and Bonala.
The USAID funded program is part of the Disaster Risk Reduction program “Together Becoming Resilient 4” (TBR4) and is being implemented by the SI Red Cross, in partnership with France Red Cross Society.
Red Cross Communication officer Kennedy Waitara said “In each community, a committee was set up to better manage the risks of disasters, called Village Disaster Risk Committee (VDRC)”.
The CBFA training that took place in Savo from the 13th to 14th of May 2015 was the fourth capacity building training that the three VDRCs have received from the TBR 4 program since it started.
All the trainees were pronounced qualified as First Aiders and a First Aid kit was donated to each of the three communities.
Empowering vulnerable communities and schools around Solomon Islands through DRR is one of the Solomon Islands Red Cross Society’s efforts to reduce the occurrence of natural disasters in these communities and work towards its main goal “Saving Lives, Changing Minds”.
