The court will tomorrow sentence a man who pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife on two occasions last year.
This followed the sentencing submission and mitigation yesterday in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard on one occasion Emmanuel Fakaia threw a sandal at his wife resulting in her receiving injury on her face.
Police Prosecutor Iete Tebakota yesterday submitted that the victim is the wife of the accused and he has the responsibility to protect or to care for his wife.
The court also heard the accused and his wife lived together since the incident.
They have a young child and the accused has already paid compensation to his wife and her brothers.
During the mitigation, Lazarus Kwaiga of Public Solicitor’s Office said the nature of the offence was that the accused argued with his wife.
He said they argued briefly just like any normal couple had.
He said the weapon used in this case is a sandal.
Kwaiga submitted his client’s early guilty plea shows he is remorseful for his actions and that he love his wife so much.
He asked the court to take into consideration that fact that they are married and had a child.
Principal Magistrate Fatima Taeburi having heard the submissions adjourned the matter for sentencing.
