A RETIRED police sergeant has called on the government of the day to recognize local police officers who served the country during the ethnic crisis.
Hendry Kahui who was part of the few loyal officers who served the country during the tension period from 1998 -2003 said, their effort to protect the country went unnoticed to this day.
He said, during the time of their service some parts of the country are regarded as war zone areas which is very dangerous.
“Though it’s dangerous some of us put the safety of the country first where we serve the country with our full heart,” the retired sergeant said.
He said, for those of them who serve in the war zone areas should not be treated differently from those who serve at the border adding, all of them are serving in dangerous zones and doing it for the country.
“The government should compensate us for carrying our duties during the dangerous times.
He added, without the effort of these few loyal officers at that time the situation should have been worse.
He recalled, during the ethnic tension some members of the police force have resigned because of safety reasons.
“But some of them continued despite the dangers they faced at that time.”
He said the government should take this into account and reward them for their role and bravery in serving this country.
Mr. Kahui has retired in 2010 after serving in the force for 23 years.
