THE Melanesian Spearhead Group(MSG) constitution should be reviewed immediately to make way for West Papua membership, says the spokesman for Solomon Islands for Free West Papua, Ian Roni.
A prominent musician, Mr Roni said the aim of MSG is to uphold and maintain the cultural values of Melanesian countries only.
He said it would be sad to see West Papua being left out of this group because of reasons that enslave them.
“We cannot just say that an observer status is enough to cool off their cry for freedom whilst the brutality and hopelessness is hanging in the air,” he said.
Mr Roni argued that in the first place Indonesia should never have been given a status in the Melanesian Spearhead Group.
He said although they took over through the referendum, history shows that it was done unfairly and proven up until today with her Trans-emigrational policy and suppressions towards the West Papuans.
“There is no sovereignty in this and diplomacy should not be a determining factor for the issue,” he added.
“The world is watching and waiting at how Melanesia is going to address the matter.
“Our decision in the coming meeting will show the world our true identity and I don’twant to be seen as a traitor who sells my brother for a bowl of soup.
“The Melanesian solidarity must be put into practice and we must have strong leaders in Melanesia who will break through in the international level when it comes to the integrity and the livelihood of our race.
“When we bow down to Indonesia the truth of the matter is, we become an accessory to murder and we don’t want that,” Mr Roni said.
He said Melanesian Spearhead Group must now make a stand and keep Indonesia out and give west Papua what they want.
