PAELONGE Bamboo band has stunned over hundreds of people that attended the official opening of the Rokotanikeni 16th meeting at the KG Sixth school hall on Tuesday.
It was rumored after their short sneak peak show by many as ‘bringing a taste of Gizo town to Honiara’.
They rocked the hall with their usual melodic sounds bringing women members of the West Are’are Rokotanikeni Association (WARA) out from their sits to dance as they celebrated the 16 years of the birth of the savings association.
The group came as part of the Gizo Environmental Livelihood Conservation Association (GELCA) from Western Province as a member to the WARA savings relationship.
Band leader, Philip Lydis Otoahu told the Solomon Star in a short interview that their trip to Honiara was a historic one.
“We are a separate group called Paelonge Bamboo band.
“But we came here as part of the GELCA team under a savings club of WARA based in Gizo.
“Our trip to Honiara was historical because we performed at the Independence celebration last week and now we performed at this women’s association program,” Mr Otoahu said.
He added that it was the first time ever for them to perform outside of Western Province, especially Honiara.
“We performed at various locations in Honiara upon request.
“Our relatives have requested us to perform for them during our stay in Honiara,” he told this paper.
Meanwhile, the band leader said that currently they are willing to perform at any location in town upon request and his boys are very happy to be here in the capital.
