THE biggest Youth Market to be organized by the Youth@Work that ended over the weekend has also hosted the members of the Police Explosive Ordinance Division (EOD) team.
They have a stall erected at the venue to do awareness talks to youths as well as doing question and answer sessions with the youths.
The EOD stall has attracted many youths seeking information and other matters related to the work of the team during the course of the event.
Speaking to the youths last week, one of the representatives of the team said that it is important for everybody to know that their surrounding is safe.
“We are here to make all youths and the people of this nation to be aware.
“All of you must know that your surrounding environment is clear and safe because the unexploded ordinance is a threat to us all.
“Solomon Islands is a battle ground during the World War Two back in the 1940s,” the officer said.
He added that a lot of people have injured and also died as a result of neglecting the unexploded bombs.
“The message that I want to put across here is that, if you come across an unexploded bomb, just let us know.
“This is part of our job, and please don’t risk your life but just report it to us.
“We are trained for this job,” he added.
Meanwhile, he told the youths to make right decisions and work closely with the EOD team because UXO is a threat to their land, families and properties.
