Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has urged the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) to regain public confidence after RAMSI draw down.
He stressed this during the RAMSI 12th anniversary celebration in West Guadalcanal last week.
“As far as policing is concern, we want the RSIPF to win back the heart of and minds of our people.
“We want a police force that our people that can trust, respect and have confidence in as far as prosecuting their duties in maintaining law and order in the country is concern.”
He added that the draw-down of RAMSI is a critical and important one.
“The draw-down of RAMSI is critically important for us; and we do not want our people to have these kinds of perception: when RAMSI was here, law and order was restored, what will happen if they left.
“What does this entailed? What do all these mean when all the capacity building programs that RAMSI has given to us through our Police for?
He said that this is a real test for the force.
“I am reiterating this because this is the test for our force that is really to work without RAMSI.”
RAMSI has been in the country for 12 years ago after the nation was through crises.
