The Honiara City Council (HCC) Education Division in collaboration with the Solomon Islands Scouts Association has organized a training for flag rising among the schools in the city.
HCC Chief Education Officer Wayne Koebule said, this is part of the DCC Government through the endorsement of the Ministry of Education to revive the daily flag rising as a national identity in every school.
“Every education authority has been encouraged to revive this tradition of flag rising
“HCC education authority with the support of the Solomon Islands Scouts Association conducted the training purposely to train our teachers how to tie the flags, proper ways to hoist the flags and how to fold and keep them,” Koebule said.
“We are targeting the schools specifically to teach our students the importance of the flag as a national identity and to have pride in it when flown in the air,” he added.
The CEO said, the training has been the second for Honiara which include Council’s schools and other schools from different authorities.
After the training, each school were given new flags provided by the Ministry of Peace and Reconciliation.
Some of the Schools that have gone through the first training already carried out the program.
Meanwhile Koebule thanked Joe Oge and the Solomon Islands Scouts Association to conduct the training.
“We are pleased to have Joe and his team with their expertise to teach our schools with this very important task of flag rising and there have been positive feedbacks from the participants,” he said
He added the training has been organized for schools in Honiara City, Malaita and Guadalcanal Province and will extend to other Provinces in the Country later.
Also apart from the teachers, officers from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force have also attended the training.
Koebule further encouraged schools around the country through the program to help revive the flag rising tradition and to recognize the importance of national identity through our national flag
