FORMER city mayor Andrew Mua has urged the council to relocate the Ranadi dump-site.
And he reiterated that should be taken as a priority by the current Alfrence Fatai leadership.
Mr Mua said there have been problems related to the dump-site during the last flash flooding in Honiara.
“This is not a new issue, that dump-site is located close to a river,” he added.
“It is subject to water log and that will be an issue for as long as the dump-site remains there.”
Councillor Mua said the only solution is to relocate the dump-site to another location that is on higher ground, not close to any river and is not subject to water log.
He said millions of dollars have been spent on managing the current dump-site, which could have been saved for other purposes.
“This amount could go up further if the dump-site remains there; it will be waste of money; donor’s money and money that should be best used for better causes such as beautifying Honiara.”
The council currently does not have any immediate plans to relocate the site, situated in the Ranadi industrial area of east Honiara.
Mr Mua’s call came during the three-day regional waste management seminar that ended yesterday.
