THE Malaita provincial government has been urged to build a fence in front of the new Auki wharf to stop vehicles from disturbing passengers during arrival and departure of ships.
Malaitan Johnathan Mae said it was important for the wharf area to be cleared of vehicles all the time to allow free movement and flow of people.
He said passengers normally find it difficult moving their stuff in and out of ships when there are vehicles occupying the space.
“Often passengers struggled to move their belonging between those parked vehicles, which are always inconvenient,” he said.
“The best option to solving the problem is to stop vehicles from driving onto the wharf. And that means building a gated fence in front of the wharf.
“Vehicles should wait outside for passengers to come out.”
Mae said the Malaita provincial government must address the situation.
