FOUL smell from a leaking sewage pipe has forced Tuvaruhu community high school in Central Honiara to temporary suspend classes as of Monday.
School principal Hilda Takarobo said, the situation started last week.
“A sewage pipe that serve the whole community broke last week just outside the school area and sewage waste have flooded into the school compound and causes the bad smell,” Takarobo told the Solomon star yesterday.
She said, that they have reported the issue to responsible authorities to fix it.
However, due to delay in resolve the problem, the situation came to worse over the weekend.
The school boss, whose resident is located close to the leaking pipe could not bear the bad smell.
The Honiara city council health division has been informed of the matter and inspected the situation.
Yesterday most of the students have been advised to remain home until responsible authorities address the situation.
She added, it was the second time that the school has experienced such problem and it’s really inhuman.
“The smell is too much so we want the authorities to deal with this quickly so that we can resume classes back any time this week.”
She added failure to fix the problem on time will affect all the examination classes because they will miss a lot of lessons.
Honiara city council healthy division late yesterday afternoon told the paper, the problem has been fixed.
However, the school principal said, classes will resume once the smell subsides and the wastes cleared off the school compound.
“Once the smell goes away we will kick start classes.”
