A MAN has been remanded in custody on Monday for allegedly breaking into the Police Commissioner’s office at the Rove police headquarters last week.
He is Albert Tutua, who has just been released from serving a prison term for a similar offence of break- in.
Police Prosecutor John Palmer on Monday submitted that one of the reasons to apply for the remand is that Tutua also served a term in prison for the offence of break-in and just released from prison in June.
“The suspect did not respect the high office of the Government (Police Commissioner’s Office) where every citizen of this nation look high on, as it is the office of police chief.
“The suspect is a well-known burglar and doesn’t respect the judicial system and kept on repeating the same offence despite being convicted several times,” Mr Palmer submitted.
Tutua is now facing an office break-in charge.
This was for allegedly breaking into the police commissioner’s office at the police headquarters, on about 3am on 3 August, 2015.
Police alleged Tutua entered the premises by cutting the eastern fence, broke into a window where he got into the building and stole an external hard drive, a boot, and 50 x $50 Telekom cards.
The break in was discovered 7am that same day when a Police Participating Force arrived in the office.
The properties stolen are not yet recovered.
Magistrate Natalie Kesaka granted the prosecution’s application and remanded Tutua in custody until August 24, when he will return to court.
