THE Solomon Islands National University Students Association (SINUSA) says it remain independent amidst the current strike action taken by the university lecturers.
SINUSA president George Apato said, yesterday the body has made its decision to stay neutral amidst the problem affecting the lecturers.
“Few weeks ago, we have intended to support the lecturers.
“It is because we want to give them weight so that classes can kick off.”
However after meeting with lecturers and SINU council on separate days last week, the student body decided to withdraw their support to either of the parties.
“We will remain neutral and let those two parties fix their own problems.”
He said, there are certain people within the lecturers association using the strike action for their own interest.”
“Therefore we students will stand aside and see what solution they can come with.
“The strike issue started three weeks ago which has affected the students.”
According to initial information from the university, the lecturers are staging the strike due to claims of outstanding where they wanted SINU to back date their payment from January 1st 2013.
