Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has appealed for cooperation and mutual partnership amongst the Malaita Provincial Government, resource owners, churches, non-governmental organisations and community groups in the province to ensure economic development and prosperity.
The Prime Minister made the appeal in his address at the province’s 32nd Second Appointed Day Anniversary celebration in Auki Friday where he was the guest of honour.
He said the Democratic Coalition for Change Government (DCCG) will support and strive to ensure that development and its economic benefits reach the rural populace in the country including Malaita Province but the accomplishment of this objective will require the cooperation of the provincial governments, resource owners, churches and the entire community.
“Cooperation is a guiding principle of the Democratic Coalition for Change Government. This is where active participation of people in the governance of their own affairs and proper management of their resources are fully recognised within the framework of laws and traditional norms,” he said.
“I therefore appeal for cooperation and mutual partnership amongst the provincial government, resource owners, churches, women and youth groups, chiefs and community elders, non-government organisations and community members to work hand in hand with the national government and be part of the planning and management process of this province.
“I urge members of the provincial assembly and your community leaders to also work harmoniously with your Members of Parliament to ensure socio-economic development programmes are facilitated within your communities.”
The Prime Minister said Malaita Province being blessed with ‘great’ natural and human resources has greater potential for economic development and prosperity.
He urged the Malaita Provincial government and people to utilise their resources and add value to them for the prosperity of the province and the nation at large.
“Greater investments in your resources and your willingness to stretch beyond your boundaries to capture your potentials will help you attain the economic goals of your province and the nation.
“I therefore urge all stakeholders who are part of the development of the province to work closely and support each other for the well-being of your province and the entire Solomon Islands,” the Prime Minister added.
