Communities in and around Burnscreek East of Honiara are currently suffering the absence of water after a disgruntled member of the community allegedly chopped off the main pipeline supplying water to most households.
The action described as a senseless act was believed to have happened after the Solomon Water staff undertook the water disconnection exercise on some of the homes at Burnscreek area early last week.
A concern resident who wants to remain anonymous said, such senseless attitude has painted a bad name for the community.
He said, people should respect authorities when they are carrying out their responsibility on any disconnection exercise.
“Solomon Water has all the right to disconnect or connect any water lines base on their respective policies.
“And people must respect what exercise they do because it is their job,” he said.
He told this paper that on Tuesday, when a group of Solomon Water officers went to the site in an attempt to reconnect upon requests from people in the community, they were being turned back by some youths living nearby and till now, the water pipe still have not yet fixed.
He said this senseless act should be investigated and reported to the police so that whoever is responsible can be brought to face justice.
With current fine weather and lack of rain, many families are being affected.
Some of the schools within the area have also been affected which resulted in classes running half day.
Attempts to have officials from the Solomon Water who were responsible to comment were unsuccessful yesterday.
