Malaita Provincial Premier Peter Chanel Ramohia has hailed the Ministry of National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace (MNURP) on its peace-building programs and activities in the country.
In a statement early this week during a brief courtesy visit by the Ministry officials at Auki, he said, “Ministry of National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace work in the country is important”.
“Your coming to the province will help us provincial government know, what the Ministry is doing and further more what are the programs and activities that need collaborative efforts of implementation in the province.”
The Premier added, seeing the importance of peace building in the country, Malaita Provincial Government under his leadership has set up the provincial Ministry of Peace and Reconciliation to oversee the peace-building process in the province.
“And your coming will cement the partnerships and further provide linkage between National Government and Malaita Provincial Government.”
Premier added development cannot come without the presences of peace and unity.
“Therefore, it’s timely for us to work together, link up in all means to foster peace and unity in our nation, Solomon Islands.”
He thanked the national Government to see the importance of peace-building in the country.
He assured Ministry officials that Malaita Province will always work together and support the work of Peace-building in the country.
Director Peace and Reconciliation Ruben Lilo in response thanked Premier Ramohia for words of acceptance and assurance.
He said the main purpose of the visit was to have dialogue with province regarding the national peace-building policy.
“And also a line out way forward Ministry can work together with the province on implementing peace-building programs and activities in the province.”
The officials also congratulated the Premier on his successful election.
The team also visited Auki Correctional Centre and Kilufi Hospital and on Wednesday and Thursday the team is holding peace-building policy workshop with the Provincial Assembly Members and other government officials.
