A COMMITAL hearing will be conducted next week on the case of a man who allegedly stabbed to death a woman on New Year’s Day at Kirakira.
Roy Leslie Sega appeared in court on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to one count of murder.
His lawyer opted for a short form preliminary inquiry. September 9 was agreed for the hearing to take place.
If the court finds sufficient evidence on the murder charge against Sega, he will be committed to stand trial in the High Court.
In the event the court finds insufficient evidence, Sega is likely be discharged.
Sega was charged in relation to an alleged incident on 1 January 2015.
The deceased and her husband were working at their family garden on that day when the accused went to their house.
Prosecution alleged the accused went into the deceased and her husband’s kitchen and helped himself to homemade tobacco leaves.
It was alleged that one of the deceased’s children who was at the house at that time went to tell that to the deceased and her husband.
The deceased then allegedly told her husband she will be the one to go and see the accused and she went back to her house.
Arriving at home, the deceased allegedly saw the accused cutting the home made tobacco leaves and talked to him.
Sega allegedly told the deceased that after he cut the tobacco he will cut her as well.
He then allegedly cut the deceased on various parts of her body, which led to her death.
The deceased was rushed to the Kirakira Clinic but was already dead upon arrival.
