SACRED items stolen from the private chapel of Catholic Archbishop Adrian Smith have been returned after the Solomon Star published news of the weekend theft on Wednesday.
“I am pleased to report that the most important of the sacred items stolen have been returned today,” Archbishop Smith told the Solomon Star last night.
“Unfortunately I was not at Holy Cross when the Monstrance, Pyx and Tabernacle Key were returned to Holy Cross,” he added.
“The young person who returned them found them in the possession of another person, he had read the report of the stealing in the 2nd September Solomon Star and brought them back to Holy Cross without delay.
“I did not have the opportunity to meet that good young person who returned those very important items.
“I would like very much like to meet that young person. On returning them to Holy Cross, he gave them one of the DMI Sisters at Holy Cross but failed to give any contact information.
“I hope that that young person will make himself known to me. I am very pleased to have these items returned and I want to thank God for helping us in this way.
“I want to thank also those who prayed with me that the stolen goods would be returned.
“While the actions of the thief were very negative, the action of the young person who returned the stolen items speaks well of the respect he has for the Holy Things of God.
“There are a few other items still to be returned, it is my hope that they will be returned soon.
“Thank you to all who have helped in any way to restore the stolen items either by your prayers or actions.”
