TWO people are dead and two others in serious condition following a fatal early morning accident at Doma, West of Honiara, Monday.
The dead were the male driver and a 15 year old student who was sitting at the passenger’s seat in front.
Reports reaching the paper said, the accident occurred at around 7.30am after the car traveling at a high speed veered off the road, took a number of posts close to a Home Stay and landed into the stream at the Doma bridge.
The report further claimed, the driver was under the influence of liquor and was traveling east bound into the city.
The young deceased was a form one student at Tamboko community high school and was on his way to school.
He accepted the offer for a lift when the driver stopped. Other students refused to accept the lift after they realised the driver was obviously under the influence of liquor.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene while the young student was rushed to the National Referral Hospital but died shortly after arriving at the emergency ward.
Two others who a male and female managed to survive the accident but suffered serious injuries to their bodies.
The death has shocked family members, relatives and the school, it was revealed.
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Traffic department at Guadalcanal province yesterday has confirmed the death.
A statement from the Police Media Unit said, Police alleged a car traveling from Aruligo area was heading towards Honiara town with four people, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a bridge at Doma.
“A male driver and a 15-year old boy at Tamboko community high school, who were sitting in front of the vehicle, were killed instantly during the collision.”
Police Forensic officers at Honiara traffic and Guadalcanal police have attended the scene and are currently investigating the cause of incident, which left two deceased and two others with serious injuries to their bodies at the National Referral Hospital, the statement said.
Police have yet to verify the cause of the accident as members of the public, particularly those around the crime scene are asked to come forward and assist police investigation.
“Police urge the general public motor vehicle drivers to take more precaution when using the main roads. Those behind the wheel must be responsible not only for their lives, but passengers and pedestrians alike.”
