EIGHT members of the Solomon Islands Artist Association (SIAA) have been confirmed to attend the upcoming Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) countries trade show and fair day in New Caledonia on November.
Association President Barney Rooney told the Solomon Star in an interview, Tuesday, saying the eight members comprises of both male and female and they will represent the country at the event.
“SIAA have eight members confirmed to attend the show with different skills. They include, weavers, carvers, artists and shell money-makers.
“They will be there showing in different areas based on their skills and their provinces, “ Mr Rooney said.
He said, preparation for the event is well underway.
“At the moment, we are well prepared for the event which few months away from now.
“We already prepare our materials that would be displayed during the show. What we are doing now is finalising the final names of our members and send them to the responsible Ministry for confirmation,” Mr Rooney said.
The SIAA president explained only artist who are members of the association are eligible to attend the events.
“We have many artists throughout the country that are skilful and very talented but we are only selecting artists who are members of SIAA to participate at the show.
“For those in the provinces who want to participate in such events, they must first register themselves with the association before they can qualify to participate in any international events,” the president highlighted on Tuesday.
