RANOGGAH/SIMBO (RANOSI) constituency in the Western province has now moved into supporting families and individuals with the provision of land transportation as part of improving their livelihood.
On Monday the constituency took delivery of four cars funded under the Rural Constituency Development Fund (RCDF).
The cars will be used as part of supporting the livelihood of families and individuals from the constituents living in the urban centres such as Honiara, Noro, Munda, and Gizo.
The cars which worth several thousands of dollars were ordered on behalf of the constituency by Advance Technology Ltd and were handed over to the constituency office and recipients yesterday morning in Honiara.
Project manager Nathan Alenia said, the vehicles is part of the constituency’s fulfillment to meet the project needs of certain individuals and their families living in the urban centres who are from the constituency.
He said, this is the first lot of cars ordered by the constituency for individuals who have applied and next year more vehicles will be ordered.
He explained the cars will be used by the recipients to support their families generate income while engage in other projects.
Most of the successful recipients for the project applied this year.
Similar project is expected to continue next year.
He explained the recipients will use the car to generate income as well as support whatever projects they have engaged in the urban centres.
Mr Alenia said, apart from the land transportation, the constituency is also supporting sea transportation where around 20 outboard motors (OBM) are being ordered for rural recipients this year.
“Most of them range from 15hp to 40hp. And many more people will be receiving their OBM to support their existing projects or start engaging in a project.”
Its understood a number of people who have received their OBM over the years from the current MP have engaged in the transport service, tourism activities, fishing, farming and copra.
The project manager said, apart from these projects, the constituency is also support the livelihood of the people through the provision of roofing irons which have already been delivered.
He added more solar panels are also arriving soon and will be shipped down to the constituency for distribution.
“So the constituents are expected to benefit from various project this year,” he said.
One of the project recipients John Tagini was all smiles yesterday after receiving his key from the project officials.
He described the project support for his transport service as a dream come true and blessing.
“I have been praying for this project to help support my family who is living in Honiara and now I’m very happy because this would support me and my family,” he said,
Mr Tagini from Malaita who is married to a Ranoggah lady and has been living in Ranoggah for the past 40 years said, after moving to Honiara he has continued to face challenges to meet his basic needs such as school fee for his children, health and family obligations.
He said, he had been engaging in a number of projects to support his family and by having this car would boost his plan to support his family by operating a taxi service at the same support hisfamily to sell things at the main market.
Mr Tagini who received a Mitsubishi Pajero this vehicle will also support family obligations such as school run, medical, church trips and to support his people from the constituency.
He said, his main project is to operate a taxi service to generate income.
“With this help I’m a happy person now because the Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Sigoto and his project committee have seen my need and the struggle I have to support my family members here in Honiara and back in Ranoggah.”
He acknowledged Mr Sigoto for being the first MP to support individuals and families from the constituency living in the urban centres.
“We have former MPs who fail to see the need to support constituentsliving in the urban centres,” he said.
He added, the MP supports everyone despite those who have opposed him many times.
“And I wish to thank him and his working committee for their support. With this project, I can no longer rely on the MP to see assistance because this is his support to me and I must work hard to generate income and support my family.”
A rep from Advance Technology which ordered the cars expressed satisfaction to assist the constituency in its project needs.
The recipients will be responsible to register their own vehicle.
