THE Ministry of Health and Medical Services has given out two new recognition awards to end the 2015 National Health Conference in Honiara on Thursday.
The first award, under the category of the Best Performing Province in the past four to five years, went to Guadalcanal Province.
The award, which is in the form of shield, was received by the Guadalcanal Medical Rep Dr Joel Denty.
The shield has the name of Guadalcanal on it to indicate that the province was recognised as the best performing province this year.
According to the Ministry of Health and Medical Service Permanent Secretary Dr Tenneth Dalipanda the shield will be moved from province to province on a yearly basis depending on which province performed the best during the year.
While he encouraged the first recipient to perform above their current status to retain the shield next year, he also stated that the other provinces will also try their very best to receive the shield for the first time next year.
The other award, which is an individual award, went to Dr Aaron Oritaimae for being the Best Health Worker of the year.
The two awards will now become annual awards.
