Ministry of Finance and Treasury assures National statistic stakeholder’s that Ministry will continue to support future key national projects of National Statistic Office (NSO) in the country.
The assurance was delivered by Permanent Secretary of Finance and Treasury Harry on behalf of the Minister at the launching of the 2012-2013 Household Income and expenditure survey (HIES) both national and provincial analytical reports at Mendana Hotel last week.
“As a Ministry responsible for the NSO, I will continue to support current and future key national statistical projects such as the current Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) and the forthcoming national population Census for the country.
“My government also recognises the current support for the development of the Solomon Islands first ever National Statistics Development Strategy currently been finalized by the NSO with funding support from my government and the Government of Australia.”
He said, the strategy will support the development of strong and responsive national statistical system across all ministries to meet the increasing demand and supply of statistics in this technological age, so that there is a consistent and timely inflow and outflow of core statistics for evidenced based decision making and policy development in the country.
He commended the Government Statistician, the PS an US for the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, the HIES Director and staff of the National Statistical Office, and all the HIES Enumerators and the survey respondents for their valuable efforts in supporting the HIES Project.
“Much appreciation should also go to our development partners and international organizations such as DFAT, the World Bank and SPC, and our other important partners that have supported the NSO in various technical assistance capacities and other support during this HIES Project.”
