SENIOR journalism lecturer at the University of the South Pacific (USP) Dr Shalendra Singh has acknowledged the performance of Solomon Islands students studying journalism at USP Laucala Campus in Suva, Fiji.
Speaking to the Solomon Star, Dr Singh said Solomon Islands students did well over the past years and have received best overall awards in the region for their academic performance in journalism.
Dr Singh said in the past years Solomon Islanders scooped best awards and even this year some students showed brilliant performance that captured his interest to have more Solomon students to apply for journalism studies at USP, since they are talented in this academic course.
He said journalism career has contributed a lot to good governance of Pacific countries especially Solomon Islands.
Dr Singh, who was here purposely to extend the USP alumni network with former USP students, said their visit was fruitful, as they met many of his students and were able to talk and discuss things that could help boost their journalism career in the future.
“We encourage Solomon students to come to USP,” Dr Singh uttered.
He said since the popularisation of digital media the work of journalism, media and communication has become marketable as NGOs, government and private sectors are now demanding specialist in those field, hence USP course prepares students for this sort of skills and trainings.
