Officials from the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Industry and Immigration have confiscated expired goods from a shop in Honiara.
Minimart shop, at Rove area, west Honiara was said to have been caught by the officials selling expired goods.
The confiscation of the goods came after a customer Alfred Karuheusubo bought a packet of army biscuit at the shop and experienced stomach and body pain after eating the biscuit.
Mr. Karuheusubo said he felt sick with an upset stomach and his body was shaken with unusual pains.
“When I felt my stomach upset, and my body shaken with unusual pains, out of curiosity I checked the empty biscuit packet and amazingly found it had expired in November 2015”.
” I was very angry so I rushed back to the shop and demanded my money back but the Chinese owner at the counter refused to refund my money, “he said.
Mr Karuhuesubo said he then went to the Consumer Affairs and Price control Division and reported the matter.
With the help from the Consumer Affairs and Price control Division, his money was finally refunded by the shop owner while the officials confiscated the expired goods.
In the meantime the responsible authorities have warned shop owners that it is an offence to sell expired goods.
Those caught in the illegal sale of expired goods are liable for prosecution.
