A GOOD number of workers involved in the recent provincial elections for Makira Ulawa Province are still waiting to be paid their allowances.
One worker who asked not to be named said many workers feel frustrated; since they have yet to be remunerated for the work they did during the recent Makira Ulawa provincial elections late last year.
The man said many frustrated workmen and women have been constantly told by the provincial electoral officials in Kira Kira to wait while their elections allowances are sorted out.
He said payment to polling station venues hired during the elections have also yet to be settled.
The concerned worker said they were told by the Provincial electoral officials that they are faced with inadequate finance to meet costs incurred during the recent provincial elections since their original budget request for $2 million was drastically reduced by more than one and half.
He said the provincial electoral office had to make do with just over $600,000 to run the elections.
He said the financial shortfall had deprived the electoral office from providing adequate electoral kits to several polling stations.
However, he said quite surprisingly, the electoral office saw it fit to hire the use of three vessels to run the elections which he claimed as un necessary costly exercise which could have been avoided by the use of only one vessel as had been the case during the previous elections.
