People in and around Malu’u were made aware that there is no magistrate in Malaita.
This was revealed by Malu’u Police boss Inspector Peter Kinita during Police and Chiefs awareness talks at the Malu’u main market during the weekend.
The Officer made the people aware after they have experienced an increase in illegal sale of alcohol in the northern region.
Inspector Kinita said in such situation, submitted reported cases will be unable to be disposed immediately and offenders can take long before receiving sanctions.
The people now call on the judicial authority to consider allocating a magistrate for Malaita and what the magistrates require should be met by the government.
“It is important for ensuring cases are dealt with promptly which sends a message to offenders that law and order is very much there to guide and punish them.”
