A FAMILY of ten is homeless after their home was razed to the ground on Tuesday this week.
And the cause of the fire must be serve as a warning to all people using cell (mobile) phones, because the fire started from an exploded cell phone according to Solomon Star stringer John Toki.
Mr Toki said the incident occurred on Tuesday morning at Konapiro village, Northwest Guadalcanal.
“The young boy who was residing in the same house was charging his mobile phone direct from a dry cell (big battery).
“While waiting for the recharging, the boy fell asleep. That was when the phone was fully charged and exploded, throwing pieces of flames all over the house which was made purely from sago palm leaf.
“Fire quickly engulfed the thatched house rendering it difficult to put out.”
He said the family lost all their belongings in the blaze.
“The owner had lost everything including clothes, mattresses, and other important family belongings.
Mr Toki said it was the first tragedy from the many good things about mobile phones.
“It should serve as a big warning to everyone, to always take extra care when charging their cell phones.
A chief in the village Raymond Kapini as a result of the incident urged the two telecommunication companies in the country to provide insights about such dangers to people.
“This incident should be the first and last to have happen, therefore proper advice and awareness on dangers of cell phones must be provided to people so that we take precautionary measures.”
