An Interplast Australia & New Zealand (Interplast) nurse education team will visit the Solomon Islands from 27 February – 4 March 2016.
The team will be at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara to provide two concurrent training programs, one for local nursing staff and for the first time one focused on breast care.
The team will be led by Sr Jan Rice and will include three nurse educators including one breast care nurse specialist. This visit is a follow up to a nurse education visit conducted in July 2015.
Interplast medical teams, funded by the Australian Government, Rotary Clubs in Australia and New Zealand and private donors, have been visiting the Solomon Islands since 1984 to provide free surgical intervention programs to relieve people of disability.
To date 1869 consultations and 1185 life-changing procedures have been conducted in the Solomon Islands, and several nurse education programs have taken place.
This Honiara program will be the 40th Interplast visit to the Solomon Islands.
