THE Parliamentary Opposition Group has called on the Government to inform the nation on the progress of the Tina Hydro Project.
The Opposition made the call following recent reports in the media that Chiefs from Malango and Bahomea were not happy with the Government’s failure to meet the cost of the valuation, which the core landowning tribes considered genuine.
“The Opposition would like to know the progress of this project and whether the Government had already settled the issue with the landowners.
“The Opposition Group understands that the Minister of Finance in his budget speech in December 2015 highlighted that Tina River Hydro Project is one of the major initiatives that will be progressed under the 2016 budget.
“As such it is only right that we are informed of any latest development on this issue,” the opposition said in a statement.
The group recommended that the Government continue to inform the people of the progress of national projects to avoid misinformation among people.
“This is not only for Tina Hydro but also other major national projects around the country. A responsible Government must always inform and educate its people so that people are well aware of any progressive work on national projects in the country,” it said.
Meanwhile, the opposition called on landowning groups to continue to work together with the Government to seriously move the project forward.
“On the other hand, the Government must have the political will to drive these national projects; something that seems to be lacking with successive and the current Government,” it said.
