The Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) will reactivate its existing arm to help member countries in times of disasters and more so to Fiji now after the impacts of cyclone Winston which had devastated the country with massive destruction.
Prime Minister and MSG chair, Manasseh Sogavare said this on return from a tour to Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea, Friday.
Unfortunately he was unable to visit Fiji due to the cyclone there.
He said MSG has a structure organisation including an arm to help address disaster stricken member countries.
“I have dialogue over reactivating this arm of MSG with the leaders,” he said.
Sogavare said unfortunately, he could not make it to Fiji due to cyclone Winston that struck Fiji whilst on tour and has to abort the trip there.
“I am sure my Fiji counterpart understands it, and I am looking forward to discussing matters of concern to MSG with him at an appropriate time later,” Sogavare said.
“On that note, it is also equally important that the current situation be addressed and how MSG can step in to help.”
PM Sogavare reiterated that MSG’s role to assist Fiji will be discussed through the rightful channel and hopefully the arm to assist in times of disaster will be reactivated.
