SPEAKER of the National Parliament Ajilon Jasper Nasiu was impressed with the turnout of students a brief celebration marking the Commonwealth day at the National Parliament, Monday.
Mr. Nasiu told the paper, he was very impressed with the turn out of the students at such a very important event.
He said, while many Solomon Islanders know that the country is a member of the Commonwealth family, they know little less about the history of the country with regards to Commonwealth.
“Therefore attending such event makes students know more about the country’s history.”
He also highlighted that not every day students have access to the National Parliament.
“So students who attended the event are very fortunate as they take time to tour around the parliament and learn about the standing orders in the parliament.”
Students from a number of high schools around Honiara who attended the ceremony yesterday also expressed their satisfaction after attending the event.
Many of the students said, they have gained some very important information about the Commonwealth and the National Parliament.
For most of the students it was their first time to visit the National Parliament.
