WHAT appeared to be a deadly accident turned out to be a lucky escape as the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industries Labour and Immigration walk away unharmed.
Eye witnesses told the Sunday Star George Kosui walked out from the crashed government vehicle with a woman and a child believed to be his family.
“It was shocking to see a woman and a child coming out from the crashed vehicle, because the high speed engaged resulting in the accident to me means there were no women and children in the vehicle,” one eye witness said.
He said the G-plated Toyota Hilux was travelling from White River up towards town at very high speed when the accident occurred.
“I was sitting with my road-side market and saw the vehicle veered off the road at Bishop’s Dale area before hitting a tree and taking down a fence at the Solomon Airline’s residential area.”
A Police officer who attended to the accident said they cannot confirm whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol but they will investigate to substantiate the cause of the crash.
The three escaped unharmed but the new red hilux has sustained considerable damage to its tray and will be costly to mend again.
