COMPANIES that are involved in transporting containers on our public roads have ensured they abide by the safety rule.
This is despite the risk these vehicles posed to the public and the traffic.
Most companies said, they ensure that containers don’t fall off from the back of the trailer while on the road is their priority.
Most of the containers contain cargoes and goods coming in from overseas by boat.
A spokesperson for Solomon Sheet Steel (SSS) Limited said, most of the the trailers have four pinches to lock the containers when at the back of the trailer.
“Therefore it is safe when traveling on the public road.
“However, accident can happen only if the drive forget to lock the pinches or there is careless driving on the road,” the spokesperson said.
A George Wu Company staff also reiterated the same sentiment, saying their vehicles have four pinches to lock the containers when traveling on the road.
Meanwhile, in Fiji last Thursday, a driver and a passenger escaped a near death accident after a container slipped off truck and fell on their car near the Edinburg, Walu Bay intersection.
The passenger was pulled out of the wreck at the scene. The driver was rescued with the help from fire-fighters.
