Malaita premier Peter Ramohia has defended his comments made on the slow implementation of national projects in the province.
This followed accusations certain Malaitans levelled at him over the comments he made in the media.
Certain Malaitan groups said Ramohia’s comments were misleading and did not help with the national government’s plans to implement projects in the province.
But Ramohia said his comments were in fact complaints to the national government about the lack of progress with regards to the implementation of national projects in the province.
“As head of the Malaita Provincial Government, I made those comments on behalf of the province,” he pointed out.
“This is what the MPG is mandated to do on behalf of our people,” the premier added.
“Unfortunately, one or two Malaitans came out publicly to criticise what I said and in fact they commented negatively on my comments about our projects.
“As reasonable and wisdom people, it is not good to become negative but let us rise up and look for solutions for our projects and at the same time, it is our duty to assist the ‘Think Tank’ group to find ways to address this issue,” Ramohia said.
The Think Tank was established by the national government to find new approaches to ensure national projects earmarked for Malaita are implemented successfully.
“Let us not dwell here but look at ways to address this issue for the development of our people and province now and in future,” he added.
