THE country’s National Development Strategy (NDS) 2016 -2035 will be officially launched today.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and Minister for Development Planning and Aid Co-ordination, Hon Danny Philip will officially launched the document.
The event takes place at the Heritage Park Hotel.
NDS will be unveiled with its national vision “Improving the Social and Economic Livelihoods of all Solomon Islanders.”
A government statement said, this strategy plan maps out a strategic direction for the future development of Solomon Islands for the next twenty years with a long term vision, mission and objectives reflecting the aspirations of all Solomon Islanders.
The NDS focuses on two key areas – social and economic livelihoods – recognises that the key to growth and progress for Solomon Islands lies with sustainable economic development, promoting economic growth and improved service delivery for all.
“The NDS is a vision and plan for all Solomon Islanders. It was developed from a comprehensive consultation process carried out from June 2015 to March 2016 of this year that included government ministries, provinces, development partners, private sector, NGOs, church groups and communities including chiefs, elders, women and youths in all provinces,” said the Minister for Development Planning and Aid Co-ordination, Hon Danny Philip.
“The NDS sets out a framework for development policies, priorities, and programmes, providing a single reference point and common strategic direction over the next twenty years that all stakeholders can follow,” he said.
Minister Philip said that the NDS also encompasses a public sector reform programme that will impart a clear sense of direction for our public service, improve accountability and enhance efficiency of service delivery.
“Good fiscal governance and credible and stable policies are fundamental conditions for private sector growth. To this end, the NDS includes medium term strategies that will guide the Government’s development expenditure programme,” he said.
“It will take time to achieve the objectives and strategies of the NDS and this will need commitment and action from all of us – a true partnership. Strategic partnerships with our key stakeholders including development partners, provincial governments, private sector, NGOs, faith based organisations and other stakeholders will be vital for its successful implementation”, said Minister Philip.
The launching ceremony is expected to be attended by All Members of Parliament, Heads of Diplomatic Development Missions, Representatives from Private Sector and Civil Society and Government Ministries.
