Lawyers representing six people accused of attempted murder on an elderly man at Gela, Central Province last year are urged to attend court on June 1.
This is for the lawyers to inform the court on how to go about their clients’ case and to confirm to the court of their position regarding the case
This followed the absence of the four lawyers on Wednesday, who are representing all the accused.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Shepherd Lapo said if the four lawyers do not turn up again, the case will never progress on to the next stage.
Their lawyers were supposed to indicate the form of preliminary inquiry to be conducted on their clients’ cases on the last occasion.
Public Prosecutor Olivia Ratu said the matter was previously adjourned to yesterday for that purpose.
Three of the six accused who are females are represented by private lawyer Samuel Balea.
The presiding magistrate told the accused it is their duty to tell their lawyers to turn up in court.
Mr Lapo therefore adjourned the matter and said he expected to see the four lawyers in court on the next court appearance.
Hubert Hebo, Daniel Koeta, a 17 year-old boy, Clarah Palmer, Ella Maurianibata and Mary Dora are facing one count each of attempted murder.
Public Solicitor’s lawyers Jenny Namo, Michael Holara and Ben Alasia represent the male accused.
