Deputy Police Commander Juanita Matanga appeals to the family and relatives of those who involved in the incident which resulted in the death of an elderly man over the weekend, to let the law take its course.
Ms Matanga said it is a sad but sensitive issue, therefore urged parties involved to refrain from unwanted actions.
“I appeal to the families and relatives of those concerned not to take laws into their own hands instead allow the law to take its course.
Ms Matanga also thanked the media for its encouragement to people in this type of situation.
She said if families and relatives decided to take the laws into their own hands, they too will be affected.
A young man has been arrested right after the alleged killing of the elderly man at Oibola along the South Road, Malaita.
Police media yesterday confirmed that the young man in his mid 20’s has been charged and placed in Auki police custody.
According to the police, the deceased in his 70’s arrived at Oibola to sell his goods when he was confronted by a drunken man demanding money from him.
Police said the elderly man however told the drunken person that he is yet to sell his goods but was allegedly attacked which resulted in his death.
It was alleged that relatives of the deceased in retaliation burnt down eight homes on that same day as a result.
The Malaita Police Commander has condemned the criminal actions adding that those involved will be investigated and arrested.
He said some of the families whose homes were burnt down were never part of the problem.
