THE three days Solomon Islands National Urban Conference (SINUC) aims to conclude and agree on a (the) way forward to improve urban planning and development in Solomon Islands.
The summit which was officially opened on Monday by the Minister for Lands, Housing & Survey Hon. Moses Garu will conclude today.
“By the end of day three (today) of the conference, the aim is to agree on the best way forward to improve urban planning and development in Solomon Islands,” said Minister Garu.
He said, “a new reconnected pathway that will lead Solomon Islands urban future into growth and positive development, urban focus that connects well with the Pacific Urban Agenda (PUA) and aligns to the global sustainable development goals.”
Garu thanked the Ministry for organizing the conference with the assistance of UN-Habitat, SPC and the Australian government.
“I am hopeful that you’ll leave this conference with a plan of action for some real change, because the urban future of this country depends on this,” Garu told the 71 participants.
The Ministry of Lands, Housing & Survey with the assistance of UN-Habitat, Secretariat of the Pacific Community, and the Australian Government, is hosting the conference.
This is the first time such a conference (NUC) held in the country.
The theme for the conference is “Reconnecting the Urban Dots”.
