Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast is pleased with the peaceful rally that took place yesterday in support of West Papua’s bid for full membership in the Melanesian Spearhead Group.
He said the organising committee had done a fine job in organising and working with the police.
“I think that is a sign of what can happen in Honiara with the right spirit.”
Mr Prendergast said police had worked very closely with the organising committee for that peaceful march.
“I thanked the committee for their professionalism and thanked everyone involved in the march for the very peaceful and cooperative way they went about that activity.”
The rally was conducted from the Honiara City Counsel area to the SMI compound at Town Ground, starting 8am yesterday by West Papua supporters.
It was organised by the Solomon Islands Solidarity Movement for Free West Papua and the Pacific Island Association of NGOs (PIANGO) to coincide with the Melanesian Spearhead Group Summit which kicked off yesterday.
