A three days Strategic Health Communication workshop to address immunization in Malaita province was held in Auki last week.
A statement from the Ministry of Health and Medical Service (MHMS)explained the training was organised to look at ways to address the low rate of immunization in parts of Malaita.
The workshop was a follow on health findings last year in 2015 which highlighted a low rate in immunizations to parts of Malaita based on a health data collected from six villages in the province.
This was confirmed by the Malaita chief health promotion officer Selwyn Warito.
Mr. Warito said the three days workshop was a success because they used it to discuss appropriate ways to tackle the issue of low immunization rate in Malaita.
According to the results presented in finding last year, mothers from age 20-30 in Malaita have shown less responsibility when it comes to immunisation.
Therefore, they are now working on solutions to counter the low immunisation rate in Malaita with possible key messages.
He said recommendations were collected and will be submitted to the Ministry of Health in Honiara for consideration.
Currently the provincial health promotion department in Malaita is working hard with its stakeholder to come up with a standard message to address the issue of low immunization rate in Malaita.
Malaita is the first province of the nine provinces in the country to successfully conducted the workshop to address the issue.
Other provinces will follow soon.
