The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers in Auki, Malaita, with the support of the Honiara based Police Response Team (PRT), have arrested three male suspects and retrieved one fire arm over the weekend.
This was in relation to the incident at Taba’a in North Malaita late last week, where a man forced bridge construction workers at gun point, to leave.
Police in Honiara were deployed on the Police Patrol boat on Saturday morning to assist Auki police in the operation.
Dalgro workers were deployed to the area to reconstruct damaged bridges but met the gunman who forced them back to Honiara.
Maliata Provincial Police Commander, David Wate expressed his disappointment but continue to praise the local chiefs and elders of the Loina village, for their support in arresting the three promptly.
“The arrest that was carried out by our RSIPF officers was a result of the great support rendered to us by the chiefs and elders of Loina and Taba’a villages in North Malaita.
“I’m hoping that our community leaders and people will continue to assist police to ensure our communities are safe and peaceful,” he said.
The three suspects were brought to Honiara and are in Police custody awaiting their court appearance.
