HONIARA residents have experienced an influx of fundraising groups during this mid-year break.
From June up to now, fundraising groups have been organizing entertainments every evening at various locations in town.
Most of the groups come from Malaita and are on missions to raise funds for church or community rest houses.
The groups have been lodging in schools but since the commencement of this academic semester, some groups have already left.
One group leader said in rural villages, getting funds to build permanent community churches or rest houses is difficult.
“And not one would spend their own money on a community project, so communities normally come up with groups to raise funds.
“It is always gratifying to see Honiara people giving towards such causes.”
One of the groups that are still visiting places is a cultural dance group from Sulufou-Urumaomao group.
