THE newly-crowned Miss Solomon Islands is looking forward to showcasing the country at the South Pacific Pageant in Apia, Samoa, on December 3rd.
Camilla Grossmith from Munda and Vela La Vela in Western Province, took the crown and other awards including Best Speech, Best Talent and Best Sarong.
The 23-year-old, who is studying at the University of South Pacific Solomon Islands Campus to qualify for a place in medicine, was one of six finalists at this year’s pageant.
The event was held at Coral Sea Resort on Saturday.
Ms Grossmith said winning the crown is another new challenge to face.
“But that’s not an issue,” the newly-crowned Miss Solomon Islands said.
“Even during this pageant is already a challenge.”
“I sort of believe in myself to do it even though I face tough competition from other girls.”
Speaking on the upcoming Miss South Pacific Pageant, Ms Grossmith said she will not only represent herself but the whole country.
She said the pageant show is not about beauty.
“Beauty sums up everything that you already have in you that attribute, characteristics, potentials, values and something you can offer to your country.
“That’s what I think of it because after all, being beautiful is one aspect of it,” she said.
Ms Grossmith said the pageant show was to boost girls’ confidence and self-esteem.
She said it created a platform to voice out your issues, how you feel about the country, what you can do about, how to become role models of other girls, empowering women and to become an ambassador for your country.
Ms Grossmith will leave with her chaperone, Maslyn Pioh and supporting members from King Solomon and Solrais for Apia on November 24th.
