Honiara City Council (HCC) planning division has received an application from the National Parliament to construct an access road through the Kon street area.
The application was submitted last week after HCC issued a stop notice to the National Parliament to halt its excavation work on that access road.
HCC’s chief planning officer Japheth Tuhanuku confirmed saying, “National parliament has lodged its application and is pending approval after we issued them with a stop work notice last week.”
He added that the road access to parliament has nothing to do with the construction which is slowly shaping up around the same area.
“The construction there was a private area, and any issues arising between parliament and the owner of the site are their own to deal with.
He explained HCC has only given approval for financing of concrete fencing but not for further developments like buildings in that area.
“The site is not suitable for construction of any building, and we have not permitted any house to be constructed there.”
Meanwhile the title holder of the area, Fred Dola when asked said that the access road to parliament has gone into his area but he has agreed with Parl to allow for access road.
