Honiara City Council (HCC) will continue with its demolition exercise after its crackdown on illegal market venders at the Kon Street behind the Anthony Saru building on Tuesday.
HCC Clerk Charles Kelly said that their clean-up campaign in collaboration with the Prime Ministers Office (PMO) will continue.
“HCC is working closely with the PMO in our clean up campaign to ensure a clean environment in our city as a window to the world.
“Part of the campaign is our continuous crackdown of illegal structures for market vendors along the Honiara streets.”
He said that they have started from White River market few weeks ago, this week around the CBD area where demolition of the Kon Street market was done early this week.
“Our next target is the Fijian Quarter vending site, and we will move on to King George Sixth area, in the east.
“We call upon the vendors to abide by the laws, their vending practices are illegal and it’s a serious offense.”
Mr Kelly has appealed to Honiara residents and Solomon Islanders to take ownership of the Honiara, and make it a peaceful environment to live in.
