THE Honiara City Council is calling for cooperation from all market vendors as it moves to clean up our city in preparation for the 2023 South Pacific Games.
Honiara City clerk Charles Kelly said the work under taken by the city council is in line with the council’s ordinance as well as the Prime Minister’s Office Revitalisation Programme in preparation for the South Pacific Games.
“We understand the concerns of the street vendors but the laws are there and no one is above the law,” Mr Kelly said.
He said the Honiara City Council Law Enforcement Division is now working towards East Honiara.
“We kindly ask the vendors to cooperate with us by not returning to sites already demolished by our law enforcement personnel to continue selling.
“This is against the law and anyone caught can be prosecuted,” Mr Kelly warned.
He said the South Pacific Games is a big event and everyone must work together.
“We have to prepare in advance for these upcoming South Pacific Games where we are the host country,” Mr Kelly said.
“It’s a big event and we must work together and take pride of our own city.”
He said street vendors selling without license are illegal according to the HCC ordinance.
