A SIXTY-six (66) year old man has been arrested yesterday for possession of child exploitation material.
A statement from the Police Media Unit said, following the arrest investigation by the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF), Sexual Assault Unit is progressing.
Other charges are being considered, the statement said.
“This investigation commenced as a result of information supplied to police by a member of the community.
“Legislative amendments enacted earlier this year details offences with severe penalties for making, possession, and or distribution of child exploitation material.”
The Commissioner of Police Frank Prendergast wants to reassure the people of Solomon Islands that police will pursue any reports of child exploitation in the community.
The statement said this recent investigation highlights the efforts of police to deal with such allegations.
· The RSIPF is serious about all community safety and especially about protection of children and vulnerable persons;
· Possession of child exploitation material is a serious offence, and is treated as such globally;
· Anyone with information about child exploitation should report it to the RSIPF.
