THE increasing burglary incidents in Makira Ulawa provincial capital Kirakira is becoming a concern for residents and business owners.
A Kirakira resident Benedict Hagaro told Solomon Star yesterday that burglary is currently the number one crime in Kirakira.
Mr Hagaro said those who involved in these criminal activities target private homes and offices around the station.
“These incidents are caused by youths living in and around the station who are mostly kwaso and marijuana users,” he said.
He said the consumption of the illegally brewed kwaso and the use of marijuana by youths in the provincial capital is also on the rise.
“I believe this might be the cause of the current increase of burglary incidents at the Kirakira Station,” Mr Hagaro said.
Attempts to get comments from Kirakira Police Station were unsuccessful yesterday.
However, Solomon Star understands from information received that investigations on all reported burglary cases are underway.
